Here comes the heat again. This summer starting out with too many storms and the heat is on! Please remember to help your dog stay cool. The groomer can be a real help with this. Talk to your groomer about a special short cut (for your dog) :-) for the summer and especially when working out in the hot sultry days of summer.
Dog agility is still great fun in the summer but dogs must not get over heated. Just use your head and when you are too hot...So is your dog. Make sure to have cool water with you to help the dogs stay hydrated. Your best friend won\'t quit working until it is too late. You have to keep both of you cool enough.
And please, help me again to stop anyone from leaving their dog(s) in a car for any amount of time. Dogs can not take the heat generated in a car---in the summer especially. So if you see any dogs left in a car or about to be left in a car, please call for help. This is cruelty at its worst. Thanks for helping in this matter. Dog agility people are really in tune with caring for their dogs but many people still need some help. So, please help their dogs!
I have been getting several emails concerning agility trainers who think it is alright to hit your dog. Well, I can assure you, it is never alright to hit your dog. If any trainer hits your dog, I would get my dog and hit the road! I would follow up with a letter to the administration of the club stating exactly when and where your dog was assaulted. If no action is taken, I would look for another club. As well as reporting the incident to the AKC.
And by the way, many emails are asking where people can find a local agility training club or agility trainer. If you go to www.akc.org , you can do a search and find many great local clubs that are sanctioned by the AKC. If you have trouble, send me an email. I will do my best to help you find a great local club or trainer.
